Tell them they are "Fairy Berries". With the cutest, star-shaped calyx at the end, the kids might just believe you!

Tiny, bell-shaped white blooms in springtime might help you make your case. Star's bloom time is legendary.

First, it blooms very late, and resists pesky late frosts. Second, the blooms last and last to help pollinize many other varieties.

How to Use Star Blueberry in the Landscape

Even small space gardeners can grow their own antioxidant-rich Star blueberries. Grow them in a 24-inch container filled with potting soil for acid-loving plants.

If you have naturally acidic soil, you can easily grow them for a hedge or as part of a Blueberry patch with other varieties. Self-pollinating Blueberries give bigger yields with partners nearby.

With their long bloom time, Star makes a terrific pollination partner for other plants. They feature an upright, spreading form and bushy habit.

Enjoy fruit the whole season long by planting for successive harvests. Get expert advice on high-density planting techniques at our Garden Blog and YouTube channel.

Space multiple bushes four to six feet apart on center. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next.

Find space for fruiting plants whether you jump into Edible Landscaping with both feet on a suburban homestead; or keep a pretty Star Blueberry bush in a high-end glazed pot on your patio.

There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of going outside and picking fresh topping for your breakfast cereal. Add handfuls to a superfood smoothie.

With one bite of homegrown blueberries, you'll be forever ruined for bland, store-bought berries that may have been shipped many hundreds of miles.

#ProPlantTips for Care

To develop those luscious berries, Blueberries require acidic soil with a pH between 4.5 and 5.5. If you want to grow them in the ground, test your soil at their root zone.

It takes time to change pH with sulfur and organic amendments. Please test the soil regularly, so you don't wind up overshooting the goal.

Blueberries also perform beautifully in large containers or grow pots. It's easier to keep the pH stable in container culture. Size them up to a wide 24" pot to accommodate their shallow root systems.

Place them where they'll receive morning sun and a bit of afternoon shade. Apply a consistent amount of water, especially during fruit production.

Mulch with acidic pine straw or pine bark. If you can, collect neutral pH rainwater to water your Star Blueberries.

In early spring, remove the thickest, oldest stems. Leave the thin young stems, which are the most productive.

We will have a hard time keeping this productive early variety in stock. Place your order for Star Blueberry today!
