All Boxwood needs at least four hours of sunlight a day for best performance. Gordo would be fine if planted in full sun all day long.

The planting soil needs to drain away quickly after a rainstorm. However, the well-drained soil itself should remain a bit moist.

Improve your soil over time and keep the root system cool and damp by applying a three-inch layer of mulch. Pull it back away from touching the trunks. Reapply a fresh coat every year or so.

Add supplemental water regularly if you don't receive enough rainfall. Please protect your investment with a regular schedule of watering, especially when your plants are young.

In fall, soak the soil before the ground freezes or the drying winter winds start picking up. These evergreens need good moisture in their leaves for protection.

Prune in late spring to early summer, after the new flush of growth. Stop pruning well before the winter approaches to avoid encouraging new growth late in the season.

In early spring, apply an organic, slow-release fertilizer. Follow the label directions.
