How to Use Flavorella Plumcot Tree in the Landscape

You'll love using these versatile fruiting trees in sunny spots in your yard. Plant them with their pollinators as a useful privacy screen, or to cast critical shade on your patio.

Create a mulched garden bed, and include these pretty trees in an informal grouping. They'll become a spectacular focal point.

March a row of stone fruit trees along the length of your fence line. To create a modern take on the classic orchard planting, space the trees 20 feet apart on center. You'll measure from the center of one to the center of the next.

If you want to leverage the canopy for privacy screening, create a high-density hedgerow. You'll prune the trees in summer to control their size.

Plant them 5 feet apart on center, and allow the canopies to grow together. Prune the tips in summer to keep them the height and spread you'd like.

Add your pollination partners, selecting mid-season and late season varieties. Extend your season of fresh fruit for several weeks.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Plant Plumcots in full sun where they will receive at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. To keep your stone fruit trees healthy, we recommend selecting an area that receives the drying power of the morning sun.

Make sure you select a planting site with well-drained soil. If needed, bring in additional soil and create a planting mound 12 to 18 inches tall by 3 feet wide. Create an attractive raised bed by simply adding a decorative border.

In the coldest rated growing zones, give Flavorella a spot that gets plenty of good air circulation. Avoid low-lying areas that can trap air.

Apply a medium amount of supplemental water, if you don't get enough rainfall. Add supplemental water during fruit development every year to support the needs of your tree.

Use a 3-inch layer of wood mulch to keep the root system nice and cool. Please pull back the mulch at least 6 inches from the trunk.

If you'd like, apply an all-purpose fertilizer in early spring as the new growth starts. There are also Orchard Sprays for fruiting trees, including organic formulas. Follow label directions.

In late winter, prune to correct the shape of your fruiting trees. Plumcots should be pruned in an open, vase-shape with scaffolding branches at a 45 degree angle. Remove branches that grow into the interior of the canopy. Shape your tree so it receives plenty of sunlight and air circulation in the canopy.

Thin early fruit set to 5 inches apart early in the season. You'll get a better mature size and overall outcome if you thoughtfully space out your crop. Thinning is no one's favorite task, but it really will help your tree.
