How to Use Arctic Fire® Dogwood in the Landscape

Arctic Fire Dogwood makes a fantastic shorter hedge that flowers, fruits and give a wonderful winter show. We recommend keeping it as an informal hedge. It looks best when allowed to grow naturally without shearing.

Just give it the room it needs to reach its full spread, and you'll be thrilled with the performance. Arctic Fire is perfect for a screen alongside a patio.

It also can be used along the length of your driveway as an excellent snow fence. Plant it against the prevailing winds to catch and hold snow before it drifts across your driveway. Ease your winter shoveling task with these little beauties.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Arctic Fire Dogwoods are super hardy in Zones 3-7. They grow well in full sun and partial shade, but seem to do quite well, even in shade.

These are easy to care for plants that like some additional water during dry spells. They will be adaptable to most soils, including wet ones.

The best way to keep Arctic Fire colorful is to renewal prune them. In fall, cut the oldest thickest stems right out at the ground level. You'll leave the thinner, younger stems in place. These are the stems which exhibit the best winter display.

Pruning can be done in fall as your source for cut material. Use the cut stems for your containers and urns for winter decoration. You can also prune anytime during the winter or early spring before the new growth starts. It's easier if you prune when the leaves are off, as you'll be more able to see what you are doing.

If you are cutting the stems for winter decoration, remove the two-year-old stems down to the ground in November. Next year, you'll see new shoots coming up from the base which will be a vivid red that following winter.
