How to Use Autumn Bonfire™ Encore® Azalea in the Landscape

This is a versatile small shrub! You'll definitely get your money's worth with this superior choice.

It glows with numerous, true red semi-double and single blooms in spring, summer and fall. Bright, clear, red flowers go with any neutral.

Tone it down a bit by pairing it with the dark foliage of a Black Diamond® Crape Myrtle or Crimson Fire Loropetalum.

Make those red flowers pop against other warm shades of complementary colors. Or, rely on it as a red-hot accent plant against a backdrop of pure white-flowering Mrs. G. G. Gerbing Azaleas.

Plant it as a Thriller in your seasonal containers. It makes a wonderful facer plant along the length of your mixed borders.

This is truly a modern-day foundation plant! Jazz up your existing plantings, or try two of them flanking either side of your front door.

It brightens the look of older evergreen trees and shrubs. Give them an easy face-lift with several Autumn Bonfire at their feet. Add them to established borders or mixed plantings, too.

Create a solid, low hedge by planting 2 feet on center. You'll measure from the center of one to the center of the next plant.

Why not trim your front walk in these eye-catching beauties? You'll easily start the conversation with guests; and stop traffic while you're at it!

#ProPlantTips for Care

This low-maintenance flowering shrub tolerates full sun and heat, as long as the soil is mulched. If you live in a climate with very hot summers, give them some shade in the afternoon for best results. Give them 4 - 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Ideally, Rhododendrons and Azaleas love a cool, moist, slightly acidic garden soil that is high in organic matter. Use a pine bark or pine straw mulch to add acidity and improve your soil over time.

When planting Azaleas in the ground, it's better to plant too high, than too low. Mound up when planting by leaving a few inches of the root ball showing above the ground.

Pull pine bark or pine straw mulch up to cover the root system. Plan to reapply a mulch layer each year.

If your soil is high pH alkaline, or doesn't drain well, you can grow Autumn Bonfire Encore Azalea in pretty planters. Ensure there are several drainage holes, and plant them in an Acid Lovers potting soil mix.

Provide a moderate amount of water on a regular basis. Keep containers watered by setting them on a drip irrigation system to keep it easy for yourself.

Right after the spring bloom is past, give your plants a light trim to encourage new flowers and correct shape, as needed. Avoid any major summer or fall pruning, or you will remove next year's spring flowers.

Weed your plantings regularly, as the shallow roots won't like the competition. Apply a good, organic, slow-release Acid Lovers fertilizer in early spring according to the product directions.

Order Autumn Bonfire Encore Azalea just as soon as you see it in stock on the site. We can't keep this hot plant in stock, so please act quickly.
