Whether you are looking to add color in established woodland gardens, or are building a new landscape on the north side of your home, use "the right plant in the right spot". In just a short time, you'll be enjoying a blissful paradise.

Astilbes are one of the best-loved shade-tolerant flowering perennial. Astilbe Delft Lace (Astilbe 'Delft Lace') features tall, feathery plumes of soft, apricot-pink flowers on red stems in summertime.

These wonderfully showy plants thrive in partial shade conditions. Even when not in bloom, you'll appreciate the beautiful glossy, blue-green foliage. Each leaf has a silvery overlay that catches available light and shines.

In a shaded landscape, the focus usually shifts to texture, shape and form. Let this special perennial be your colorful superstar in its season of bloom.

The erect flowers rise high above a basal clump of spectacular, finely serrated foliage. The airy cluster is composed of masses of tiny flowers.

The outstanding display is attractive for several weeks! As restful as a shade garden can be, you'll be thrilled to see this colorful, rich pink respite from the green backdrop.

Consider trimming the flowers to enjoy indoors in a vase. Bundle and dry the blooms upside down for dried arrangements.

This versatile plant is also called False Spirea. It brings a welcome shot of pretty color in summer, and behaves as a texture plant the rest of the season.

Play with color and tone with the blue-green foliage of Delft Lace. The fine-textured leaves provide a nice contrast to larger Rhododendron shrubs.

Plant Delft Lace in a high-traffic where everyone can enjoy its brilliant colors. You'll look forward to them each year. Place your order today!

How to Use Delft Lace Astilbe in the Landscape

A shade garden is subtle, and you'll spend time studying the contrasts between plants.

Partner these plants with large-leaved Hosta. There are hundreds of varieties, and we carry many of them.

Use Delft Lace with Regal Splendor or Halcyon Hosta as a coordinated colorway. Then pop your planting with the bold patterned leaves of Lamium groundcovers.

Filter our site for Partial Shade or Shade plants in your growing zone. You'll have so much fun shopping and dreaming of exciting combinations to enhance your space.

A massed planting of Astilbe adds excitement to mature evergreens. Plant them on the east or west side of tall trees, bringing in additional rich soil to create a narrow raised bed if the root competition is too fierce.

Run a ribbon of them in the dappled shade beneath an informal grouping of Flowering Dogwood trees. Be sure to include spring-flowering bulbs like Daffodils and Hyacinths while planting. Astilbe will gracefully hide the yellowing foliage of the fading bulbs.

Use them to define the boundary between a manicured lawn and a naturalized area. Vary the spacing between 15 to 24 inches apart, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next.

#ProPlantTips for Care

Plant where it will receive a few hours of sunlight a day. It is a durable plant that should do well with a bit more sun, as long as the soil doesn't get too dry. The foliage color deepens in shade, however, too much shade may impact flowering.

When planting, add a small handful or two of peat moss or leaf compost to your backfill soil and mix. Add Root Booster beneficial soil additive to the top inches of soil during planting. Apply according to the directions.

Though they are easy to grow, Astilbes require regular water in summertime. Use at least 3 inches of mulch over the root system to cut down on surface evaporation. Plan to provide supplemental water on a regular basis.

Apply a good, slow-release fertilizer for flowering plants in early spring. You can top dress with compost to boost soil fertility. Wait until spring to cut back the old foliage, as it will help protect the plant from winter damage.
