Alpenglow Geranium

Place Alpenglow Perennial Geranium (Geranium sanguineum 'Alpenglow') where you'll be able to appreciate this little garden superstar. Also known by its common name of Cranesbill, you'll want to stage your Alpenglow as a groundcover, as a "Filler" in containers, or massed in the border.

Because the foliage is so finely textured, it contrasts beautifully when paired with longer, strappy leaved selections, like daylilies or iris. Try it partnered with larger hosta leaves. But don't consider this just a "supporting actor" - it shares the limelight with it's companions and for good reason.

Sweet, cup-shaped, pink-lavender flowers are held above the mounded leaves. Then, it's time for the second act, as it's finely cut foliage turns an eye-catching red in the autumn brings the house down.

Alpenglow is no diva - just be sure to site it in well-drained soil in either full sun, or partial shade. Deer don't care for the taste, but it will definitely attract butterflies to your yard.
